The place was getting cluttered again.[break][break]

The last time he’d done this, he had to sweat through moving everything alone because the hired help never showed up—and that was rather disappointing.[break][break]

This time, however, he was hoping that someone would take him up on the offer…[break][break]

“Ah, shit. This place really needs to be cleared out,” he mumbled as he looked around the place. It was an outright mess, honestly—who knew that having a storage facility on-site for the Sanctuary would lead to something that looked like this?![break][break]

Groaning, he then replaced the bandana he’d wrapped around the lower half of his face back up over his nose; the better to keep the annoying dust bunnies out. He then grabbed the long-handled broom leaning on one side and began to sweep through the area, hopefully getting the entire place cleared out—even if he was almost one entire season late, it was never too late to get cleaning shit out, right?[break][break]

He wondered if there would be someone nice enough to join him and to make this easier for him to move around. Most of the heavier things had to be taken out and sorted through before they could be brought down for either recycling or disposal.

Cap hated to admit it, but sometimes the tips at the bar just didn't cut it. He was adding more Pokemon to the household, and they ate a simply absurd amount of food. Much as it annoyed him, taking the occasional odd job supplemented his income and let him get out of the bar. Leander followed behind him, determined to help lift anything heavy. Cap had seen it, too, the little Riolu shaking with determination as he lifted items bigger than his whole body. He wasn't about to shun the help. He hated cleaning as it was, but cleaning other people's messes was even worse. But pay was pay, and he had a greenhouse to build for Valli. Stupid promises.

"Hello?" As he approached the address that had been listed, he caught sight of someone already here. With a bandanna pulled up over his face, the stranger could have passed for an old timey bandit. At least, if it weren't for the broom held in his hands. Cap waited at the doorway—no sense in intruding—and gave a smile and a wave. "Name's Caprice Isaac, I'm here to help." An appropriate change of pace.

Alexei was leaning against the broom, trying to estimate just how much sweeping would have to be done in this particular storage unit before hearing someone speak up behind him. Turning around, he then lowered the bandana before setting the broom aside.[break][break]

“Oh, thank goodness you’re here,” he breathed out in a sigh of relief. “I was wondering if I had to face this entire pile of monstrosities all by myself,” he added with a chuckle as he gestured behind him to the open shed.[break][break]

There were lots of boxes piled up high, some almost reaching the ceiling, and while there were some sheets draped over other things that were stored nearest the door, the entire place was coated in a very healthy layer of dust bunnies.[break][break]

“Hope you’re not allergic to dust or anything—did you bring a bandana along?” he inquired as he took off one of the gloves and began searching his pockets for an extra just in case the young man (who looked rather fine, by the way) didn’t have one with him.[break][break]

“Oh, what a cute Riolu!” he exclaimed as he drew closer before crouching down to wave at the Fighting-type. Once he was done exchanging introductions with the Pokémon, he then stood up before brushing his hair out of his face.[break][break]

“And I would be Alexei,” he finally introduced himself. “I hope you’re ready for an afternoon of cleaning—I have snacks ready should you want to take a break later,” he added a few moments later.

Cap was met with a friendly smile, and returned one in kind. He followed Alexei's eyeline to the absolutely massive pile of boxes behind him. He blew out an impressed breath. That was some clutter. It made sense why Alexei wanted some help, but that didn't make Cap feel any better about their prospects. This was going to take a while, even between the two of them.

"Nah, not allergic," he said, pulling a burnt orange bandanna out of his pocket. He grinned and gave it a little wave before tying it around his nose and mouth. "Not my first dust-rodeo, though. I came prepared."

Leander was delighted to have the attention of a human. He wrinkled his little nose and barked happily, rolling a shoulder as if to show off how strong he was. He was here to do a job, after all, and he intended to show just how useful he could be.

Cap couldn't help but grin at Alexei again. "Snacks already sound great," he said, grabbing a dustcloth. "What is all of this stuff anyway? If you don't mind my asking."

He couldn’t help but grin in the blonde’s direction—definitely gave off a similar energy to his boyfriend.[break][break]

Okay, Alex, calm down there. Looking is allowed, yes, but no touching, he chastised himself mentally as he tucked the extra bandana back in his pocket. “All of this… is extra stuff from the medical facility. Mostly papers, files and records about all the cases we’ve received. Some of them are broken equipment that has to be moved so there’s more room here…” he gestured at the storage area, letting out a sigh.[break][break]

“It’s a good thing you brought a Riolu with you, they’ll get along with this companion of mine I’m sure,” and with that he flicked a Moon Ball to full size and summoned his Lucario, Vincent, in a flash of red light.[break][break]

As soon as the jackal-like Pokémon emerged from the depths, the dual-type looked over at the younger version of himself before crinkling his brows in a familiar way of greeting. While the Lucario wasn’t very affectionate most of the time, he could at least communicate well through aura.[break][break]

“Don’t worry, I have enough snacks to go around for you and your companion,” he gestured as he leaned the broom against the outside of the storage unit and began to bring out boxes, assisted by the Lucario.

The red light faded to reveal a Lucario, and Leander let out a happy little whine, his tail wagging. As soon as Vincent crinkled his brows, Leander mirrored his movements, trying his best to keep the stars out of his eyes. Play it cool, man, play it cool. He couldn't hide his aura, though, which glowed with excitement.

"Huh, medical stuff," he said, swiping across some items with the dust cloth to knock the most of the loose bits off first. "It's... a lot. But I guess that makes sense for a medical facility. You have to keep all kinds of files around even after you're probably done with them." At least, that's how Cap was pretty sure it worked. He'd been to the doctor, of course, but he'd never learned more about it beyond that and the occasional doctor he served at the bar. They usually didn't want to talk about work, anyway. "Are you a doctor? Or, at least, you work at the medical facility, I assume?" He didn't mind being an accomplice to crimes, but he preferred to know about it first.

Cap started following Alex's lead, directing Leander to do the same. They lifted boxes in turn, following Alexei out to stack them near the door of the storage unit.

“Even if we’ve moved all the records to an online cloud storage, we still have to keep the paper files around just in case the online files get corrupted, because you never know, right?” he continued as he began moving some of the lighter boxes around toward the outside.[break][break]

He had decided to take care of the boxes of files at least, since he would have to move them to another storage facility—probably down in Lilycove when worse came to worse, considering Fortree’s weather tended to go to the extremes when the rainy season came around.[break][break]

“Oh, I help out over there when needed—most of the staff members are very capable people. We bring in injured Pokémon that people find from all over the place, and there was this one time a lot of people abandoned Delibirds… they all ended up with us instead. Permanent ‘residents’, you could call them,” he said as he continued to move boxes of paperwork outside for further sorting.[break][break]

The Lucario was also helping shove some of the bigger boxes, putting his weight into it as he shoved the heavier boxes down and out the way.[break][break]

The work went by at a considerable clip, him and the Lucario alternating between heavy boxes and smaller boxes full of paperwork. It wasn’t until much later did he come across a box that had something sparkling inside it.[break][break]

“Huh…?” he said, curiosity getting the better of him as he dug around and fished out a sparkling… marble. It looked pretty valuable, to say the least. There was also something… rather familiar about the coloration, too. Quickly looking up, he then pocketed the marble—the better to observe what it was later.[break][break]

“How’s your Riolu doing?” he called out to the young man. “Still holding up great? Or would you want to go for those snacks right now?” he offered a few moments later.

The marble had definitely drawn his attention, and he wanted to examine this in private—as soon as possible, because he wanted to ensure that he got a good second look at the strange thing that he had found in a box of paper files. It certainly didn’t look like anyone’s collectible plaything, so this merited his attention.[break][break]

Turning to Vincent, he then nodded at the Lucario, and they continued to bustle around the storage—clearing out old equipment that could no longer be used as well as finally getting some of the older paper files ready to be moved to a much more secure storage facility down in Lilycove.[break][break]

For the time being, he could only wonder and ponder at the mysterious thing that he’d found in the storage area not too far from the Sanctuary facilities…[break][break]

At least there was some reasonable space cleared out for more things to be stored now. Once he’d made calls to various recycling facilities who would eventually come by later to pick up the used machinery, as well as the paper files that would be moved to a much more secured storage where they wouldn’t run the risk of fading and becoming impossible to read.[break][break]

Such was the bane of medical records, after all.
